Book Description:
The British crown has placed a price on Jacky's head, and so she returns to the Lawson Peabody School for Young Girls in Boston to lay low. But laying low isn't in the cards for a spunky lass who finds trouble even when she's not looking for it.Review:
A school outing goes awry as Jacky and her classmates are abducted and forced into the hold of the Bloodhound, a ship bound for the slave markets on the Barbary Coast. All of Jacky's ingenuity, determination, and plain old good luck will be put to the test as she rallies her classmates to fight together to avoid being sold on the auction block in this new installment of the Bloody Jack Adventures. Jacky returns to Boston after a narrow escape from the law. She hooks up with old friends to hide, but she ends up getting into trouble yet again. Jacky is such a brilliant character. I love how the books build on each other. She gets out of every problem, but, more often then not, gets herself into more trouble.
Jacky uses the skills she has gained since her street days to try and gain freedom. She is once again at sea in a battle against slavers. This time instead of her trusted men at her side, Jacky has the educated young misses from Lawson Peabody School for Young Girls. How will they manage to escape? Well it seems in desperate situations, we women will do what we have to do to gain freedom.
A common theme with this series is the absence of the main love interest James Fletcher. James always seems one step behind Jacky. Her adventures lead her to do some crazy things and led him to unsuspecting places. He meets some of Jacky's friends and not all of them have platonic interest in her. One thing Jamie learns from Jacky is patience. He would have to with all the things she does. One of the things I love about Jacky is that she is a big flirt. She knows how to use her charms to get what she wants. She is so different from other female characters in the YA genre. She always surprises me with her actions.
I had a lot of fun with this book. You get a chance to see all those uptight Peabody girls do things they have never done before. The book was entertaining in that aspect. I liked that we got to know the girls a bit better. This book isn't my favorite in the series, but it's not my least favorite either.
Rating: 3.5 stars-Kind of Great
A very, very good novel. Still on the recommendation list. A few problems, but that could just be my reading taste.
