Then she’d stolen the heart of the most popular boy in town, and their secret romance helped her through the worst of times. Until Ethan Hendrix betrayed her and everything they’d ever meant to each other. Devastated and pregnant, Liz left Fool’s Gold, California – forever, she thought…
Now Liz must return to town and face the man who doesn’t know of their son’s existence. And this time she won’t have the option of making a quick getaway. Ethan and Liz can’t deny their passionate attraction, even after all these years. But will their desire be enough to spark a second chance at love?

Review:
Prior to reading this novel, I had not read anything by Susan Mallery. I am a Twitter follower and I know a few bloggers who love her work so I thought I would give it a try. I read the description for this novel and was immediately intrigued. I requested to review Almost Perfect. I was surprised I was accepted to review this novel.
Liz Sutton had a bad childhood. Her mother neglected her and her brother took off as soon as he could. Liz had a horrible reputation built on rumors, gossip, and lies. I was really pulled into her story and felt sad for her. She overcame all the obstacles and became a talented writer. She raised a wonderful boy. She left the town behind that treated her horribly. Then, one of her nieces, previously unknown to Liz, asks for her help via email. Liz runs back to Fool's Gold to help out her nieces.
At times I really liked Liz and her personality and at times I couldn't stand her. She wanted Ethan to do certain things and when he does it she gets mad. I have to admit I like how strong and independent she is in the novel. Ethan, on the other hand, is a completely hopeless character. He does and says the wrong things that make him into the bad guy. I didn't really feel the romance between the two characters. I kept hoping throughout the novel that Liz would meet someone else and fall in love with him. Of course this did not happen. I had to watch as these two characters stumbled back together again.
Some points in the novel I was deeply into it, but at other points I would feel a disconnection. The plot was pretty good, but some things were a little too over the top for my tastes. I didn't read the first novel, but I had no problem reading this book. I think this book can work well as a stand-alone. Will I read more from Susan Mallery? Yes, I think I will. I want to try some of her other series. I have heard the Buchanan Series and the Bakery Sisters Series are really good.

Skip this unless you are very forgiving. I found lead male character to be pompous and an egomaniac.
Thanks for your input! lol
I usually love the male characters, but Ethan just wasn't likeable!
Great review.
I really wanted to like Ethan but he was just too much of a jerk. Again and again he disrespected Liz and even at the end he wasn't that great. I don't need my heros to be perfect but I also don't want them to be total jerks. Like you I hoped for Liz to find another man.
@Sabrina: In the beginning they were talking with some famous person, I can't remember, and I kept hoping she would fall in love with him.
